Pressmen’s Union Applauds New Ownership Group at the Portland Press Herald
Portland, Me. July 31, 2008 – The union that represents the press operators that produce the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram voiced its support for the announced sale of the Blethen Maine Newspapers.
Portland Printing and Graphics Communication Union Local 22C President Robert Woodward stated, "The membership is excited to have this opportunity to continue their excellent workmanship with this group of investors."
"The Blethen Family’s stewardship of this Maine institution is coming to a close and we want to thank them for their hard work and commitment, especially during some difficult times. We wish them well in their new endeavors."

Portland Printing and Graphics Communication Union represents all the newspaper press operators and platemakers at the Portland Press Herald /Maine Sunday Telegram. This Local union has been in existence for some 110 years, originating as an offshoot of the Maine Typographical Union- the oldest labor organization in Maine that is now part of the Guild Local 128, a member of the investment group. Officers of Waterville Typographical Union Local 643, which represents workers at the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, support exploring this Guild effort.
