UPDATE: The Guild has received information it requested on this matter and is reviewing the material.

Evaluation sent outside the company

The Guild is investigating an instance of a member’s job evaluation being disseminated outside of the organization.

UPDATE: The company has recognized that this was inappropriate and against company policy and an apology has been given to the member involved.

Guild work being performed by exempt personnel

The Guild is investigating an instance of Guild work involving Boston Globe fee accounting being done by managers.

UPDATE: The Guild is requesting information on this matter.

Reporter denied freelance opportunity

A reporter in the Waterville unit has been denied an opportunity to freelance under the outside activities section of the contract.

UPDATE: This matter has been grieved. A grievance meeting has been held and the company’s position is that the Web site the member wants to provide news for is not objective. The Guild is getting a legal opinion on this matter.

Outsource and management performing work in South Portland

The Guild is investigating a potential use of outside contractors to do painting and managers’ use of the OmniCon system in South Portland.

UPDATE: The painting job was done by Guild members. The Guild continues to investigate the other issue.

Verbal warning

The Guild is investigating the issuance of a verbal warning to a member for too many data entry errors.

UPDATE: The Guild has raised several issues with the company on this matter and continues to discuss this issue.

Circulation managers doing Guild work

The Guild is investigating an instance of a manager making calls for seasonal starts.

UPDATE: The Guild requested information on this matter. Due to the sensitive nature of some of the material requested, the company wants some assurance from the Guild in how the material will be handled. The parties have agreed, and the information is forthcoming.
