Circulations use of outside contractors to do circulation helper work
A grievance has been filed in relation to several instances of the company using outside contractors to do circulation helper work by handing out papers at various events. The Guild and company were approaching a resolution to this agreement but talks fell apart.UPDATE: We are waiting to hear from the company on our request for an arbitrator.
Free riders
We have filed a grievance related to the company’s refusal to abide by Article I, Section I of the contract in regard to employees failing to meet their minimum legal financial requirements to the Guild.
UPDATE: We are waiting to hear from the company on our request for an arbitrator.
A non-elimination of a position
We have filed a grievance related to a regular part-time position that has been eliminated without a layoff.
UPDATE: Our lawyer has requested an arbitrator be assigned from the Arbitration Association. We are waiting for an arbitrator to be assigned to set a date.
News assistants/clerks
The Guild raised an issue with the company about the work news assistants and clerks were doing and the pay they were receiving for that work. Since then, the company has unilaterally changed the assistants and clerks job descriptions.
UPDATE: We have submitted clips to the company and are awaiting its response.
UPDATE II: The company informed last Friday that they had never received the information. We have rushed them another copy, which they have acknowledged receiving. Similarly, they said that they had sent us a report which was not received. The company is now sending letters by registered mail so that we are able to be certain of what is sent.
