For those who couldn’t make last Thursday’s meeting on health care, here’s a quick update. First, we had a big crowd, even running out of seating, so this is obviously a big concern of the membership. Second, there was absolutely no dissent on the matter that the present “offer” from the company was even worth voting on with the current provision that would take away our rights to bargain over health care in the future. So, at this point, the onus is on the company to come back with a realistic proposal that the Guild can consider.
MEETINGS: There WILL BE a special general membership meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m.
It looks like these are the scenarios. If the company comes back with a suitable offer in a timely manner, so enough notice of the details can be given to the membership, we could have a vote on a new health care package at this meeting. If not, we will have a survey referendum of the membership, as moved on the floor of last Thursday’s meeting. The third option for this meeting is if the company does make a counteroffer but not in a timely manner so proper notice of the details can be given to the membership, then this meeting would be used to make members aware of the proposal and a vote would come later.
