The Guild is saddened by the company’s decision to eliminate eight positions. The cuts include a member with nearly 40 years service to the company, and an even longer family connection with the Press Herald. None of our members were offered buy-outs in lieu of layoffs. All those impacted by this decision are in our thoughts. We will investigate the recent layoffs to make sure no contractual provisions were violated and we will ensure all of the work performed by these individuals remains in the Guild’s jurisdiction.
In other news, negotiations have come to a virtual standstill as both sides prepare for a legal battle in front of the National Labor Relations Board. The Guild now has eight grievances at the arbitration stage of the process, while minimum mileage, issuance of a verbal warning and circulation re-delivery issues have been resolved. More details are outlined below.
