Call For Applications For The 2009 Ed Beardsley Memorial Scholarship

The Portland Newspaper Guild Local 31128 announces it is accepting applications for the 2009 Ed Beardsley Memorial Scholarship. This award honors the memory of Ed Beardsley, an irreplaceable member of the Portland Newspaper Guild and an active member of his community.

The winner of the $1,000 scholarship is chosen on the basis of the content and writing quality of a 500-word essay. The topic for this year’s essay contest is: “What is a newspaper’s role in its community?”

Deadline for scholarship applications is Tuesday, July 28, 2009. The entries will be judged by a committee of members of the Portland Newspaper Guild, and thewinner will be announced on Friday, July 31, 2009.
