The Portland Newspaper Guild Local 31128 announces it is accepting applications for the 2010 Ed Beardsley Memorial Scholarship. This award honors the memory of Ed Beardsley, an irreplaceable member of the Portland Newspaper Guild and an active member of his community.
The winner of the $1,000 scholarship is chosen on the basis of the content and writing quality of an essay. The topic for this year’s essay contest is: “What role do newspapers play in elections?”
Deadline for scholarship applications is Wednesday June 30, 2010. The entries will be judged by a committee of members of the Portland Newspaper Guild, and the winner will be announced on Tuesday July 13, 2010. Application forms are available for download below.
